Anxiety can show up in ways that aren’t always obvious. Maybe your mind is constantly running through possibilities, you’re always preparing for what could go wrong, or you find yourself avoiding things because they feel overwhelming. You might feel tense, restless, or exhausted from constantly being “on.”
For some people, anxiety is a general sense of worry that never quite switches off. For others, it may show up as panic attacks, intrusive thoughts, fear of being judged, or intense fear around specific situations. Whatever it looks like for you, anxiety can start to shape how you think, feel, and move through everyday life.
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)
Involves persistent worry about multiple areas of life, such as work, relationships, health, finances, or everyday responsibilities. The worry can feel difficult to control and is often accompanied by tension, restlessness, or difficulty relaxing.
Panic Disorder
Involves recurring, unexpected panic attacks—intense episodes of fear or discomfort that can include a racing heart, shortness of breath, dizziness, chest tightness, or a sense of losing control. People may also begin avoiding situations for fear of having another attack.
Social Anxiety Disorder
Involves a strong fear of being judged, embarrassed, rejected, or negatively evaluated by others. This can make social interactions, speaking in front of others, or even everyday situations feel highly stressful.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Involves recurring, unwanted thoughts, images, or urges (obsessions) and behaviours or mental rituals (compulsions) used to reduce distress or prevent something feared from happening. The cycle can feel difficult to break, even when you recognize the thoughts or behaviours don’t make sense.
Specific Phobias
Involve an intense and persistent fear of a particular object or situation, such as heights, flying, needles, animals, or enclosed spaces. The fear is often much greater than the actual level of danger and can lead to significant avoidance.
Health Anxiety
Involves persistent worry about having or developing a serious illness. You may frequently monitor your body, search for information, seek reassurance, or interpret normal sensations as signs that something is wrong.
